Will Using A Vibrator Desensitise My Vagina or Clitoris?

In the past, an old boyfriend of mine claimed that using a vibrator regularly would damage a gal's clitoris and vagina thus rendering her chances of acheiving a good old natural orgasm ever again completely nil.

At the time I put it down to a good old healthy dose of insecurity / catholic guilt syndrome and dashed out and bought one anyway (he'd just announced his plan to go travelling for 6 months!). However, he must have gotten his information from somewhere, so I thought it might be useful for all you guys and gals if I had a bit of an investigate into this commonly quoted bit of information.

Hands up who's masturbating with one of these? Nobody?

No damage danger for you then!

Nobody's Going Blind

Nobody is claiming that using a vibrator is about to make you go blind. The apparent consequences are far more sinister than that!

The argument is that over-use of a vibrator will result in nerve damage to your vaginal area, and can also cause severe problems with your rectum, anus and bladder. Basically your vagina will be damaged through over use of a vibrator, resulting in scar tissue and reduced sensitivity.

Comfortably Numb?
So, should we all be putting those vibrators in the bin where they belong? No way! The kind of damage described would require something far more invasive than a vibrator (such as a food mixer with the safety catch off!), or possibly if you were using a vibrator 24 hours out of every day!

It is possible for you to temporarily numb your clitoris as a result of over stimulation, however every touch sensitive area of your body is the same. A tongue will suffer the same fate if forced to perform oral sex for hours on end.

However.....

There is some small grain of truth in the comments made by my unlamented ex boy toy. You can become psychologically addicted to using one of our vibrating pals. Using a vibrator is an incredibly quick fix to achieving an orgasm and can take a lot of the effort out of getting off.

In some cases this can lead to a bit of laziness setting in, making good old lovemaking with touching, kissing, and stimulation in full glorious technicolor rather dull and unappealing.

Prevention is Better Than Cure
If you've got a bit of an addictive personality, or think you could be in real danger of becoming addicted to the endorphin rush of a vibrator enduced orgasm follow these rules to prevent you becoming vibrator-reliant.

One

Make sure that your vibrator is not simply a "switch off, switch on, and use" option. Pay attention to your own feelings of arousal and make them a part of your activity with your vibrator. Making sure vibrator use is linked to the things that turn you on means that there will be no disparity between getting turned on inside your head, and the physical effect between your legs!

Two

Variety is the spice of life. Don't just masturbate with a vibrator... use other things as well. Sit on the washing machine if you must, use the shower head, your fingers, and maintain a healthy sense of fantasy.

Finally...

If the above don't work and you feel you're in a vibrator rut, the solution is simple. PUT IT AWAY!

See? Naughty picture = naughty thoughts = lovely downstairs sensations. Remember?!
